A Busy Spring for Sam

Hello to all Sam-supporters!

Since our last update in March, so much has happened! Sam had a slow start getting back to school after the pneumonia in March. His muscles were tight from being in bed so much and his intestines took a beating from all the hospital meds. By, early-mid April, he was much more comfortable all around.

Since then, Sam’s been doing great. He’s back in school full-strength and enjoying field trips and being outside since the weather has been so beautiful.

Unfortunately, because of the pneumonia, he missed out on being able to do his physical therapy on horse-back this spring. We are going to shoot for a few sessions at the end of May. He loves his horse, Raggs. See http://www.equest.org for details on the lovely place where Sam gets to ride.

Sam will be attending summer school in June (1/2 days) to catch up on some missed time and have some fun.

Our BIGGEST news as of late is that we finally got our new van! We signed the papers at Reliable Chevrolet on Tuesday, May 8th and drove that BIG hummer home. The wheelchair lift was beautifully installed by Advanced Mobility in Fort Worth. The lift is quiet and a smooth ride up and down for Sam. And, the best part is that the lift is under the van so that we have plenty of room for all the other kids inside. It’s a Chevy Express 3/4 ton and it is huge. It’ll be great for trips - can’t imagine trying to travel in our old mini-van with 4 kids and all of Sam’s equipment. Although, we’ll still need to haul a trailer - we’ll be quite a sight.

We are so very grateful to everyone at our church who made this dream van a reality for our family. We can’t say enough thanks to all those who gave generously so that we could get Sam around town with ease.
