Sam's feeling better ... may be home mid-late week
Hi gang ... a little more news on the Samster. Today’s update is that Sam is doing really well. He’s off Oxygen, breathing comfortably with a restful heart rate (100-125, instead of 150-170). Whew! Finally, he really looks and sounds good! His x-ray this morning looked really good - the best I’ve seen in a long time.
We’re going to replace his BIPAP machine (air pressure machine we hook up to his trach at night) with a home ventilator (again, only at night). It’ll act like the BIPAP but with more settings so we can change things around to beef up the support when Sam is sick. They are also ordering an IPV (Inter Pulmonary Vibrations) machine which we will use instead of a nebulizer to give his breathing treatments (it sends the treatments into the trach in puffs and will help to vibrate mucus in the lungs to loosen things up. The doctor wants us to practice with the equipment here in the hospital for 2 nights. So, we’ll be going home Wednesday or Thursday. I think we kicked this pneumonia ... finally!
Thanks for all your love and prayers,
Kelly, David & Sam
