Feeling Thankful!!

To Friends and Family,

We were feeling soooooo thankful at Thanksgiving time. Sam’s had a great 2 months since his discharge from the hospital in early October. It took a few weeks in October to get a good routine going and only a few bumps since then. We’re feeling optimistic as we head into Dallas’ coldest months of the year.

In early November, we switch from using the nursing staff at Sam’s school to sending our agency nurses to school with Sam. This means that on days when he’s sick, the nurse will stay home with him and days when he’s well, they go to school with him. This adds a lot more continuity to Sam’s care so that the same folks are caring for him each week. So, the nurses are with us from 7A-7P each week day and Saturdays. Sunday is our family day and we kick the nurses out. grin We are still very grateful to have Sam’s Medicaid program continue to cover the nursing services since our private insurance does not.

Sam was able to attend 3 horse-back riding sessions this fall. He hadn’t been in over a year due to all of his illnesses and surgeries. Rags, his horse, missed him. The physical therapist and staff quickly adjusted to special considerations with the trach. The rods in his back actually made him a little more stable on the horse. Sam just loves it and it’s great fun to be out at the barn with all those wonderful animals.

We are all looking forward to a nice break over the Christmas ... I think we’ll all stay in our P.J.s until noon each day! The Beller clan is coming in town to graciously spend Christmas with us since we’ve decided to no longer travel with Sam in the winter time. They gave up plans for Christmas in Denver to be with us - they’re a pretty sweet bunch!

Tevah’s losing teeth left and right, reading and loving Kindergarten. Jacob turned 3 and is a sweetie. Simone is now walking and into EVERYTHING… what a busy little bee!

As this year comes to a close, we are so grateful for the way God has carried through so much. We just witnessed His response to our prayers over and over.

May God’s peace fill your hearts with thankfulness as you celebrate Christmas ... don’t get too busy to enjoy. grin

We’ll write again closer to Christmas.

love,
Sam and his family
