Sam Is HOME!

Sam came home from the hospital Saturday (3/17/01). When we left the hospital, he was still only able to be off of the ventilator a few hours each day and still on supplemental oxygen. Every day at home has been better than the next and he’s been able to breath more and more on his own again and with much less supplemental oxygen.

Sam has to complete 10 additional days of IV antibiotics from home. So, we’ll take the next week or so to try to get him good enough to get started back in school (at least half-days to start). We hope he’ll be able to some school next week.

Tevah, Jacob and Simone are relieved to have a normal schedule again. We had a great assortment of wonderful friends from church and family help in the care of these three during the 2 weeks that Sam was in the hospital. Preston Rd Church has been such a life-saver (again). The folks there just freely change around their lives to help us out. David’s brother, Michael and his wife, Kristen, took Jacob for 2 nights. By the end, the three littlest Bellers had been played out and had lots of fun. But, having Sam home and Mom and Dad on a regular schedule again is good.

Sam loved the cards and notes sent his way… made him smile!

Thanks to everyone who prayed for Sam while he was in this time. We ask for your continued prayers for Sam’s protection, growing strength and health and also wisdom for us, as his parents, while we weave our way through this medical maze. The ENT, Dr. Kirkham, suggested that we talk in the future about a possible sinus surgery to help his sinus drain better (since part of this illness was a sinus infection). He also wants to revisit the idea of removing some of Sam’s salivary glands. He’s a conservative doctor and seems to understand Sam’s complexity and needs. We’ll need to pray for God to lead us for what is best for Sam. These surgeries could help reduce the risk of pneumonia and manage his day-to-day care a little better and perhaps with less medication.

We are so thankful that the Lord brought Sam through another pneumonia battle and so glad to be on the other side of it now!

Love from Sam and the rest of the Bellers.
